8:30 pm Lights out!

Saturday:
10:00 am Met at my grandma's and started going through all of her belongings. This was actually really fun to do. We found a lot of stuff that we did not know she had. It was fun because we were reminiscing but weren't crying all day. It was nice to have the whole family together laughing.
5:00 pm Dinner at my great uncle's (my grandma's brother). We BBQ'd brats and burgers. Mike even scored his last to cans of homemade coney sauce. He was really excited about it.
8:30 pm Finally got home after a really long day of rummaging.
9:30 pm Attended a New Relics concert to support my friends and have a little taste of normality in my life.
11:30 pm Crashed!

Sunday:
10:00 am Back to my grandma's to sort through what we thought would be the last of her stuff. There is still some stuff left. Some of it is garbage, other stuff is being donated, and the important stuff will be gone through again and possibly given to her brothers and sister.
5:30 pm 6 loads of laundry, numerous dishes washed, leftovers eaten.

I'm not sure if my grandma had a will or not, but we basically went through and if we found something we wanted we could have it. If a few of us wanted it we drew straws and if two of us wanted it we flipped a coin. Below are a few pictures of what I got, but there will be more to come.

I'm not exactly sure where this China came from, but they thought I should have it. The set includes:
6 dinner plates
6 salad plates
5 bowlish plates
6 tea cup plates
6 tea cups
1 gravy bowl
1 veggie holder
1 creamer
1 random container with a lid
1 platter

They are by W. H. Grindley Co (England). I Googled it and found that it is most likely made between 1914 & 1925. I guess these would have been my Great-Grandma Edith Burn's since my grandma was born in the 1940s. Again, I have no idea. They are really old looking. They are a dingy white and the plates are covered in cracks of varying patterns.

Mike and I also got an oak hutch made by my Great-Uncle Ron for my Great-Grandma Edith. After my great-grandma past away, the hutch was given to my grandma (her daughter). It is massive.

I also was given a quilt. My great great-grandma made the quilt. I'm not totally sure on the rest of the history, but it is in really great condition considering its age.

These are my big 3 and the three where I know the history. I spent hours riffling through old craft books, beads, yarn, etc. It was wonderful. I felt like I was in my very own Michaels. I will post more pics and stories later. I better continue going through all of my boxes.

  1. Those are such precious items to have of your grandmother's (and great great grandmother). I am glad that the weekend ended on a happy, thoughtful note :-)

    Love ya!
